About the Journal

TABU, the Groningen Bulletin for Linguistic Science, was published under the auspices of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen from 1970 to 2012. This Festschrift honors Jack Hoeksema’s contribution to the field. For many years Jack was one of the editors of TABU. This Festschrift now appears as a single TABU issue on the occasion of his retirement. Jack Hoeksema contributed very frequently to TABU from 1978 onwards . TABU was initiated as a publication of the linguistic research committee of the Dutch Language Institute of the University of Groningen. The editorial team writes in the first issue of TABU in 1970:
"With this magazine, [the committee] hopes to contribute to information and communication in the field of linguistics within our department. The possibility of interest and cooperation from outside the department has been taken into account.
The content will consist of (short) linguistic articles, announcements about the setup and results of working groups, announcements and reports of linguistic events in and outside Groningen, lists of new linguistic acquisitions from the institute's library, etc.
There is also room for 'news' from other departments, such as General Linguistics,
Psycholinguistics, Central Interfaculty, and the linguistics sections of other departments."

TABU, Bulletin voor Taalwetenschap Groningen, verscheen van 1970 tot 2012 onder auspiciën van de Faculteit der Letteren van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Dit Festschrift verschijnt ter ere van de bijdrage van Jack Hoeksema aan het veld. Jack was jarenlang een van de redacteuren van TABU. Dit Festschrift verschijnt als een eenmalige TABU uitgave ter gelegenheid van Jacks pensionering. Jack Hoeksema leverde vanaf 1978 regelmatig bijdragen aan TABU. TABU begon als een publicatie van de kommissie voor het taalkundig onderzoek van het Nederlands Instituut der Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. De redactie schreef in het eerste nummer van TABU in 1970:
"Zij [het redaktiekommittee] hoopt met dit blad een bijdrage te kunnen leveren aan de informatie en kommunikatie op het terrein van de taalkunde binnen onze afdeling. De mogelijkheid van belangstelling en medewerking van buiten de afdeling is in de opzet verdiskonteerd.
De inhoud zal bestaan uit (korte) taalkundige artikelen, mededelingen omtrent opzet en resultaten van werkgroepen, aankondigingen en verslagen van linguïstische evenementen in en buiten Groningen, lijstjes van nieuwe aanwinsten taalkunde van de instituutsbibliotheek, etc. Verder is er plaats voor ‘nieuws’ uit andere afdelingen, zoals Algemene Taalwetenschap, Psycholinguïstiek, Centrale Interfaculteit, en de sekties taalkunde van andere afdelingen."
