Abstract

This paper discusses AMS radiocarbon dating in terms of problems and uncertainties with reference to archaeology. Difficulties may arise from contamination and processes that disturb the age relationship between sample and event to be dated, especially for small samples used in AMS. Recommendations for sample collection and handling are given.
