About the Journal

Focus and Scope

GAGL (Groninger Arbeiten zur germanistischen Linguistik) published working papers and prepublications on the subject of Germanic linguistics. Its aim was to facilitate and stimulate discussion through a speedy distribution of draft versions. Copyright remains with the authors of the individual papers, and inclusion of their work in GAGL should not in any way preclude publication elsewhere.

Journal History

GAGL (Groninger Arbeiten zur germanistischen Linguistik), a working papers series on the subject of Germanic linguistics, was founded by Werner Abraham, and published by the University of Groningen between 1972 and 2011.

Its aim was the speedy distribution of draft versions of new publications, and many highly influential articles on Germanic syntax from the 1980s were first disseminated through GAGL. All volumes of GAGL from 1981 on were digitized in 2008, when GAGL stopped its paper production. For its final years, it appeared as an online-only journal published by the University of Groningen Library.
