Abstract

A brief discussion of the extent to which Marguerite Yourcenar’s historical novel, Mémoires d’Hadrien, reflects the impact of the Latin novelists Apuleius and Petronius.

K. R. Bradley is the Eli J. and Helen Shaheen Professor Emeritus of Classics at the University of Notre Dame and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Greek and Roman Studies at the University of Victoria. His publications include Apuleius and Antonine Rome: Historical Studies (Toronto 2012).
